Record crowd attends 2011 Tailgate

A beautiful fall day and the prospect of a great football game helped attract over 200 alumni and friends to the Bumpers College Alumni Society Tailgate Party on Oct. 8. For the first time in many years the tailgate was held on the lawn of the Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences building. The tailgate party included a dunk tank to raise money for scholarships. Dean Michael Vayda volunteered to sit in the tank and alumni, faculty and staff pitched in to help raise $400 toward the DBCAFLS Alumni Society Scholarship Fund. In addition, sponsorships by the Arkansas Rice Council, White Commercial Corporation, and Tyson Foods along with a successful silent auction helped bring the grand total to just over $4,000 brought in to help fund the DBCAFLS Alumni Society Scholarship.

Bumpers College Dean Michael Vayda
generously agreed to offer himself for
dunking to help raise scholarship
funds.
The tailgate also featured live music by faculty members Walter Bottje and Harrison Pittman. This was a first for the Bumpers tailgate and the crowd seemed to enjoy the entertainment. Guests were also treated to a fajita bar catered by Flying Burrito of Fayetteville. Alumni and friends attending had the opportunity to try their hand at some games sponsored by student departmental clubs. The Poultry Science Club hosted Pin the Feather on the Chicken, Apparel Studies set up a ring toss where the participants attempted to fling a ring over the heel of a stiletto, and Turf Science brought in a putting green. A Kids Zone featured tattoos, sidewalk chalk and Razorback coloring pages to help keep our youngest guests entertained.

The DBCAFLS Alumni Society hosts a tailgate every year, but this was the first year for which sponsorships helped make the event possible. These sponsorships along with an internal planning committee and assistance from the Bumpers College Student Ambassadors allowed this year's event to become bigger and better than ever. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success! We look forward to seeing you again next year.

THANK YOU SPONSORS!

Welcome

Alumni and Friends:
Welcome to the new Bumpers College Alumni Blog

Game time has not been announced as of today, but festivities will begin 2.5 hours prior to kickoff.
